In this video I talk about how I created the illustrations for the board book, Saint Ia Rides a Leaf. After reading the manuscript many times, the illustrations start with small storyboard thumbnails to full size sketches to coloring and shading. A book about another country and taking place in another time, takes a lot of research. I don't mind because it is so fun to learn about the world. I've never been to England or Ireland so I had to find out what it is like - the sounds of the sea, the hue of the water, the animals that might be on the beach, the clothing worn at that time, etc. I hope you enjoy this sneak peek into my life as an illustrator!
